Repurposed Curio Table Turned Bar!

Just a quick little post today.  A repurposed flea market find!  Well, I'm not exactly sure you can call this a repurposed project, I mean after all, the thing was meant to be filled with stuff... maybe not liquor... but...  Anyway,  here's the find; a little antique curio cabinet/ end table.

and I thought... wouldn't that make a perfect space-saving bar.

Ummm, yes I think so, perfectly petite and functional!

Pretty cool right?!

Hope you guys are having a great week!

DIY Table ~Rub n' Buff On Top & Gold Leaf Foil On The Underside!

Back to Rub n' Buff!  Remember my addiction to this stuff (that was over 2 years ago now...geeze)?  I get lots of questions about using it with Deglosser.  I find that using the Deglosser to extend the drying time of the Rub n' Buff makes it possible to get a perfect finish on large areas.  When I say large areas... I don't mean drawer fronts and edges of things or frames and so on.  I mean the tops and sides of big stuff... like dressers and desks.

One question I've gotten a lot lately is... "Can you use deglosser on furniture with a painted finish, without messing up the paint.?" And by "messing up" the paint, I'm guessing that means "pulling up" the paint.

In my experience... yes you can.  I have sprayed Deglosser over painted furniture and the Deglosser did not pull up the paint or mix the paint with the Rub n' Buff.
BUT... there are a lot a variables that could possibly cause a different result.  For example I would imagine results could vary depending on what type of paint you are going over, or how long ago the paint was applied.  Was it JUST painted or has the paint had ample time to completely cure?  So if at all possible always try a test spot somewhere you can't really see.

So now onto the DIY... which just happens to be a painted console table where Deglosser was used with the Rub n' Buff on the top and sides and Gold Leaf foil sheets were used on the underside of the table.  GLAMTASTIC

Here was the table to start.

First I applied the Gold Leaf foil sheets to the underside of the table.  You need the foil sheets and the adhesive made to use with it.  You can get it from Joann Fabrics...but I did have to go to a couple of stores to find it.  You can also find it online... just google Gold Leaf foil sheets.   And... just to say it like it is... this part was a MAJOR PAIN IN THE BUTT!  I've used the foil sheets before and don't remember cursing at them so much... but this time... I don't know what it was, maybe I'd had too much coffee or it was the curve of the legs, I don't know... but, I've never been so happy to be done with something in all my life.  The silver lining... Gold Leaf foil has a sheen like nothing else.  So pretty!

Then the Rub n' Buff

As I mentioned above, I always use Liquid Deglosser to help spread the Rub n' Buff over large areas. Just put some in a spray bottle, and spray the area right before you apply the Rub n' Buff.

In the picture below you can see how I sprayed the Liquid Deglosser (the dark areas)... just a light spray does the trick.  You don't have to soak it or go crazy spraying every square inch.

Then drop blobs of Rub n' Buff all over (like in the picture below) and start rubbing.  I actually used a bit more Rub n' Buff here than was necessary, but no harm no fowl.

On the side (picture below) I didn't spray Deglosser first just so you could see how the Rub n' Buff goes on without it.  Much harder to spread and tends to dry before you can cover the whole side which leaves it looking blotchy.

Easy fix, spray a little Deglosser and add a little more Rub n' Buff.... rub, rub, rub.

Small areas like the edge (picture below) don't need Deglosser.  Just dot the Rub n' buff around and rub.

And, drum roll please....

What do you think?

Stay tuned to see where this puppy ends up.

Gallery Walls ~ Art Crazy!

Hello friends! Hope you all are doing well.  I've been having a ball playing with gallery wall ideas. (Wish I had more wall space!) Thought I'd share a few photos.

First off, I hit up IKEA for frames.  Can't beat the prices there for frames with mats.  Seriously... a 12.5" x 16.5" frame with mat for $7 bucks...WHAAAAT... thank you very much, I'll take that...and that...and that!

Second off, I started up an Esty shop for my art, you can find a link for it over there on the sidebar.   Have a gander if you like.  I'm still working on it though... eventually there will be more to look at.

And Instagram too, if you like the artsy kind of updates. (Warning... I'm having a thing with painting eyeballs at the minute...)

Loving this color palette... tones of blue grey, white and green.  Feels calming.
What do you think?

So there you go, just a few bits and bobs.  Now I'm off to continue turning my wall into a giant pin cushion.  Hope you're having a great week!

Eat-In Kitchen Update!~ COLOR COLOR COLOR!~

Color, color, COLOR!  As promised, here is an update of my eat-in kitchen area, now that the artwork has gone up.  If you missed my previous post on this space you can check it out here.

I switched out the gold chair for a blue bench.  The bench just works better at the table because it sits higher than the chair.  Which is a shame because I really like the pop of color the chair added... who knows, I may end up recovering the bench in a gold velvet, but for now, I'm very happy with the blue.

Hat boxes for even more storage, and pretty to boot.

Vintage and new, bar-ware! LOVE LOVE LOVE

So there you have it.  What do you think of the changes so far?

Update On A Dining Room Makeover!

Happy weekend friends!  The last time I posted about this dining room makeover (you can see that here) it was just about done.  Here's a little reminder of what the room looked like to start.

I had really been wanting and having no luck finding vintage candelabras.  Which seems to be the way it works, you can see things all the time everywhere you look, then the moment you really want it and go out looking, POOF! U can't find nothing! (<---bad grammar intended)  But, finally we found a couple smaller ones.  I just love them, they feel like old school glam to me... I have no idea what that means (old school glam) but that's the best way to describe how they make me feel when I look at them, and by them I mean candelabras in general.

Mirror, glass, brass, and black... just a few of my favorite things!  There's a song in there somewhere, I think...
(and a crooked arse lampshade... dang it!)

I was going for drama, and sexy, and moody, so the ceiling was painted uber dark.  A plum almost black color.  It's fantabulous at night if I do say so myself with all the candle light.  Plus the rope lighting tucked behind that crown moulding.

Still on the look out for vintage sconces... but,
all in all, a pretty simple and inexpensive makeover (except for the chandelier), yielding a pretty dramatic difference, I think.
Just new paint on the walls and ceiling, recovering the existing chairs in grey velvet fabric with a complimentary fabric on the back (it has metallic gold running through it, ahhhhh, so pretty).
Then lots of sparkly accessories, scored for a bargain at thrift stores, flea markets and the like. (Except for the gold candlesticks in the center of the table.)
And the details in case you were about to ask:
The paint color on the walls is Silver Spoon by Valspar.  It has purple undertones, pretty!
The ceiling paint color is Purple Basil D41-6 by Olympic
The gold candlesticks in the center of the table are from Neiman Marcus.
Art on the wall by me.
Chandelier here. (ouch)
The dining table and chairs, not sure, bought by homeowners 18 years ago.
Everything else... vintage/thrifted

Eat-In Kitchen In Progress!~

I found these two... I'll just call them storage chests, about a year ago.  They were brown and grungy looking when I found them at a thrift store and had been sitting in my garage ever since.  I had originally thought they would work well in a mud room or entryway, with a cushion on top, as a place to sit and put on/remove shoes, and for extra storage.  But.... here they are now, after a good clean and a fresh coat of white paint, in my eat-in kitchen, serving as more of a buffet and extra storage.

I have a habit of sticking plants in everything... like the brass teapot and creamer, filled with Jade plants.  A mercury glass something or other, filled with succulents.  Then of course, my little coffee mug filled with an Aloe plant.

More pictures soon, from the other direction, once the artwork goes up!

Christmas Decorations Of The Past! Oh The Sparkles!

Christmas decorations of years past.  I obviously have a thing for candles and all things sparkly...and loading tables full of it.  Just trying to get myself in the mood for some holiday decorating...  before Christmas is over!

I'll stick a candle in anything that will hold one.  Like... vintage perfume bottles and recycled liqueur bottles... I love candles all the time, all year round and especially at Christmas

Candles and dishes display... more of that here

The year of the chicken wire.  You can see more of the chicken wire Christmas here and here

This was from the year of my Rub n' Buff obsession.  More of the Rub n' Buff Christmas here

And finally, my vintage gold and silver Christmas... also the tree branches everywhere after a huge limb fell in my back yard, Christmas... more of tree branch and dollar store decorations here.

Hope you enjoyed all the sparkly-ness!!
