Bedroom Redo ~ The Other Side ~ Stainless Steel Look

I'm back!!  Feels like it's been forever since my last post.  I finally have a few new tid-bits to share.  So, remember that bedroom I did a while back?  Here's a picture to refresh your memory.  You can see that full post here.

Well I finally got some pictures of the other side of the room.  YAY.  There is not really a  whole lot to the other side but check out that chest of drawers!

Remember that "stainless steel look" desk makeover I did a while ago?  You can see it here.  Well I did the same treatment to this chest.  I think it turned out pretty snazzy!  In case you missed that desk post, this chest is now covered in Aluminum Flashing.  You know, the stuff that's meant to be used on your roof... somewhere... not quite sure where.  It looks and feels like stainless steel.  Like your refrigerator. The chest was actually a "faux" silver leaf look to start with so I didn't have to use any Rub n' Buff on this one and the sides of the chest were in good shape so I only did the front of the drawers and the top.  The top of the chest had a lot of damage, deep scratches and that sort of thing so the flashing worked like a charm to cover those and still maintain it's glamorous look.

This is a pretty easy look to recreate for pennies on the dollar.  You can pick up chests and dressers for pretty cheap at most thrift stores, and grab a roll of aluminum flashing from your local home improvement store.  Check out the "how to" post for where to get the nailhead trim.

You can use any wide framed mirror and a tube of Silver Leaf Rub n' Buff for a glamtastic mirror makeover.  And... Lowe's has black shades for only $12.

Back with more goodies soon!!

  2. I agree with Marty!! I was stunned STUNNED by that dresser. It looks sooo expensive and I could not tell that that was a mirror that was rub and buffed even though I've done it myself lol! Although I tend to make mirrors gold ;) I do love the way silver always looks though, sooooo rich!!! <3 it!!!

  5. You didn't mention but did you repair the damage before you applied the flashing? Thanks! Alessandra Abbot

    1. I sanded over the deep scratches on the top so that it was smooth. I don't know if that was necessary... but I figured it couldn't hurt. Hope that helps. : )

  6. Any one ever try using Rub n Buff on countertops? I'm thinking of doing my kitchen tops in a stainless steal tone. Think it would be durable enough?
