Seeing The Ikea Light!

I had a quick post yesterday.... and I'm writing a book today!  I will warn you... there is absolutely no point to this post, and the ending may be anticlimactic.  I mentioned the Ikea pillows in my last post, and I thought I'd share some info about me and Ikea.  I'll say my first experience with Ikea was like a BAD blind date.  I had no idea what to expect. We did not get along so well the first time we met, and I was NOT an Ikea fan.  I didn't really know anything about Ikea other than... they were supposed to have good prices because you had to put everything together.  Ok... no problem... I'm a DIY kind of girl... sounds right up my alley!  Then I get there and it's crazy busy, and there is stuff EVERYWHERE.  Wasn't expecting there to be quite so many people there. I'm not a huge fan of crowds when I'm shopping.  I like to be able to spend my time looking around at every little thing so I don't miss anything, instead of spending my time saying... excuse me, pardon me, ooops, sorry, excuse me... sorry, can I just get through here, oh, I'm sorry did I bump your bag.... UHGGG gives me anxiety just thinking about it.   So... after I'd been walking around in the store for a while, I started to notice the word WHAAAAAT? coming out of my mouth a lot.  Anyone seen the move "Despicable Me"?  Remember the little minion that did the high pitched shrill of a WHAAAAAT?  That was me.

So anyway, this is how it went.  Me: "So if I want this pillow... where is it?"  Them: You have to write down the info off all the tags for the stuff you want, then go downstairs to get it.  Me: "WHAAAAAT?'  What do you mean I have to write down info to pick out my stuff". Them: "Yeah, that's how it works".  Me: "but I didn't bring a pen and pad with me!" I was kind of joking when I said that, but they must hear that a lot because they didn't skip a beat while telling me that it was ok,  just use my cell phone to take a picture of the tag.  Me: "Ok...fine...., I can do that."  Then I get downstairs and that's when the WHATS really started flying.  WHAAAAT, what do you mean I have to lug those boxes down off the shelves, WHAAAAT, what do you mean they don't give you bags to pack your purchased items, WHAAAT, what do you mean everyone has to pack up there own items at checkout.  I only bought a rug after all that.  So I'm standing there in the checkout line, and I'm standing there, and I'm standing there, and I'm stiiiiiiiiilllllllll standing there, because it was taking soooo long for everyone to pack up their purchased items.  I could feel myself starting to twitch!  Not a real twitch, like I'm hitting myself in the head with my shoulder kind of twitch, but an internal twitch kind of thing.  I'm going to blame my feeling of internal twitchyness on the fact that I'm an ARIES and like things to move at a quick pace.  Patience is a virtue I have to force myself to have and I think that's where the twitching comes in!~HA  So anyway, I spent the next half an hour or more, restraining myself from running up to the checkout area to start helping people pack up their stuff to speed things along.  By the time I got out of there I needed Botox to remove that deep set line that had settled in between my eyebrows, from wearing my "I'm so over it face" for too long.  YES, NOT love at first sight, and I hadn't been back until just recently!  BUT....

A couple of weeks ago I decided to give it another go... and made sure that my "grumpy pants" were at the dry cleaners that day!  Thankfully there weren't many people there... and as I walked around... the heavens opened, the light shined down, and I finally fell in love with IKEA. (at least most of it anyway! ~ HA)

So first off... how many of you made it through reading all of that? And for those of you who did... do you feel like you just threw away 5 minutes of you life?  Hope not!! lol

Hugs, kisses, and

  2. LOL I made it through the post! Funny, funny! You are like my husband with the twitching!
You know what? As a German I'm used to the check out stuff. We aren't spoiled when it comes to that. You have to buy your plastic bags at the checkout and pack your own items. That is at every grocery store!!!

Ikea always reminds me of my first job in Germany. When I see the people with their yellow shirts decorating the rooms. That's what I did in a furniture store similar to Ikea and it was the funnest job ever!!!!
    I looooove IKEA

  4. I had the same response to Ikea the first time I shopped there. It didn't help that I brought my toddler son who needed to eat and threw a fit in the kitchen section. I couldn't find my way out to get my husband so I just let my son tantrum until I could pick him up and make my way back into the store like a fish swimming up stream. I've learned to go by myself during the day, have my list with me, and get in and out as quickly as I can. Oh ya, never wear heals. You'll live to regret it.
