Pearl Blue Rub n' Buff On Vinyl?? No Wait... Pleather???

Hey there you guys!  Thanks for the comments regarding all my Rub n' Buff projects, and letting me know that you are venturing a try at it yourselves!  Be sure to keep me posted on how things turn out.  I would love to see what all of you have done with it.  If you have a blog, be sure to leave me a link to your post in my comment box so I can check it out.

Ok, this is going to be a short post!  Here is the Rub n' Buff on vinyl I mentioned at the end of my last post.  But.. it's not vinyl, my bad!  It's more like a faux leather, like a pleather.  Here were the chairs before.

Then after a dose of Pearl Blue Rub n' Buff (applied with a cloth)

Crazy right?!  Looks like a brand new chair.

Have to say, I think the Pearl Blue color might be my favorite... or at least a very close second to the Gold Leaf.  Maybe because it looks so different depending on the light.  It can look super silver blue at times and also a deep pearly blue in lower light.  I love the high shine!

There was one main difference between using the Rub n' Buff on the pleather vs. the real leather.  On the pleather the Rub n' Buff took longer to dry.  It was a little sticky feeling for about 24 hours after the application, but then it was all good.  Real leather dries right away.

So what do you think?

Smiles!

  5. I had no idea that you could use Rub n Buff on things like leather or vinyl. These chairs look fabulous. Did you have to seal the pleather after the RubnBuff? I am off to check out your other projects and join as a follower.

    1. Nope no sealer. The Rub n' Buff did stay tacky for a while after appling it to the pleather(24 hours or so), but once it dried completely and I buffed it with a cloth. It was good to go. : ) On wood and real leather it drys right away and I've never needed any kind of sealer for those projects either.
Hope that helps! Oh, and no prep needed for any of my Rub n' Buff projects. It always amazes me!

  9. have you tried using it in any type of design or pattern? I"m tempted to get a test piece and see if I can do stripes or even a stencil of sort or whether the consistency won't lend itself well enough (maybe stripes....) hmm.... thanks for sharing! I wouldn't have thought to try it.

    1. hi Sammy - I actually saw and have been following your for a while now - I had meant on any type of fabric :) I'm too scrrrrrd to try it on fabric but as I was typing my earlier comment I thought *duh* just buy a bunch of scrap pieces and test it out. Maybe I'll do that this week and see how it comes out..... leather, vinyl, upholstery/drape types etc.

sheesh I'd metallic the TV if my husband would let me!!

    2. Ohhhhh fabric! lol. No I haven't tried it on curtains or upholstery. I can tell you, the t-shirt I use to apply it with, dries hard and not pretty lol. I have found some metallic fabric paint though!!! oooh ahhhh! Haven't tried it yet. I'll let you know on that. It's nice to know someone else loves metallics as much as me! : )

  12. Hi Sammy!

I'm so very thankful that I found this blog post!

I need some silver boots, and sadly the company that makes the perfect ones discontinued them, and only S and XL sizes are limited in-stock, while M's are completely sold out everywhere.

But they make a white version of the boot, and I found rub n' buff online... but wasn't sure if it'd work on these: http://www.amazon.com/Funtasma-Mens-Captain-100-PU-Knee-High/dp/B00856VYJ2

After reading this, I feel far more confident using the silver leaf rub n' buff on them.

Any tips you might add for my project?

    1. Seems like it would work from the picture. I did find a picture of the boots in silver. The silver Rub n' Buff isn't going to be that bright. Tips... tape off the black sole so you don't get Rub n' Buff on it, and tape off the inside of the top of the boot too. Work on one side of the boot at a time. Be generous with the amount of Rub n' Buff you use. Squeeze good sized blobs of Rub n' Buff on different areas of the side you are working on and work fast to rub them together before it dries.
