Vintage End Table Turned Storage Ottoman

My $5 rule.  When I'm out doing my thrifting thing I have an unwritten rule...if I see a piece of furniture, and it's real wood (not mdf or whatever) and is $5 or less I buy it.  Whether I need it or not... and no that doesn't make me a hoarder!  heeheehaha,  ... I mean for $5, come on, you can fix it up and give it to someone if nothing else.  So anyway.... that leads me to this vintage end table.  Not so pretty, but... it was $5.

Truth be told I need another end table like I need a hole in the head, but extra seating and storage space I can always use.  So with a couple of pieces of 2" foam, a little fabric, some nailhead trim, and silver spray paint...

Meet my "silver bullet" storage ottoman!  This picture is also sort of a sneak peek into my master bedroom redo.  More on that later.  But... I can say it's going to be... dreamy!  Get it... bedroom...dreamy... ok moving on. : )

So how do you like my silver bullet?

  5. This is so pretty :) I've seen leggy coffee tables made into ottomans but I never would have thought to use this piece as one - so creative! You did a beautiful job :)
I also wanted to say thanks for your sweet comment on my blog awhile ago - I really appreciated it! And also for featuring my hutch on your blog - I was honoured!

  7. Hi Sammy....I'm hoping that you can help me a sealer problem that I have! I have over 30 yrs experience in reStyling furniture...but I can't seem to figure this one out! I'm using Metallic spray paint (Rustoleum Aluminum) to restyle accent tables. This paint DEFINITELY needs to be sealed...but when I used my fav (PolyCrylic), it turns the shiny, Glam finish to a murky gray!!! So disappointing....and I haven't been able to find a sealer that doesn't completely change the finish!! Any ideas or experience in this arena!!

PLZ help....I need to finish several pieces!

    Thx...Deidre :)

    1. Hi Deidre, first let me ask, when you say "This paint DEFINITELY needs to be sealed..." are you saying that because once dry if you rub your hand across it you have silver paint residue on your hand? Or is there another reason that it definitely needs to be sealed? Sorry if that seems like a strange question to ask... but I have my reasons. : )

  8. WOW Sammy! I see these dreadful things all da time and look away. After seeing your take on them I feel shamefulfor leaving them to their demise hehe. You watch I won't be able to find one around anywhere now. You my friend are one talented lady:)

  9. I love the look of your round table redo with the silver material and paint, you did a great job.
These old end tables are not the nicest looking and pretty outdated but what a difference a little paint and material can do. I did a redo on 2 old rectangular end tables. One I turned into a seat bench the other I made into a doggy bed, both sold. I was sent a pic of the dog in her new doggy bed, so cute. Have to say I prefer the look of the round ones.
