Settee Makeover! ~ Blue Velvet!

Ok, back to the furniture!  Here is a quick before and after of a little settee I found at the flea market some time back.  Here's what it looked like when I found it.

Pieces like this are normally pretty easy to reupholster. (Excluding the back of this little settee).   Usually there are just staples or tacks under the fabric trim/cording.

Pull off the the fabric trim/cording, then pull out the staples and remove the fabric.

Blue velvet to the rescue!  I opted to make the back flat, and just keep the scallop shape on the top of the back.  What do you think?  Should I go back and do the seamed sunken look?... I'm thinking the flat back has a more modern feel to it, which is what I was going for.
Would love to hear what you think on this one!

  2. Looks great now, but I do miss those seams. I think they were the best thing about the piece. Still love how it is now, too.

  3. The seems would look great next to the ruffled bed spread. Still looks amazing though!

  4. Sammy- While I like the plain look, tufted scallops would really make this piece stand out! Guess it's because I'm more traditional. Let us know your decision. :-) Sue

  5. That looks gorgeous! Did you darken the wood too? It looks darker. Did you do that without having to strip and re-stain the whole thing?? I'm curious what you did, it looks fab. Thanks!

  6. I like your redo on this "settee" and prefer the flat back with the addition of the upholstery tacks as I think it gives it a more modern, updated look. The flat back also tends to balance the whole piece out to where you appreciate the overall look of the settee compared to before the focus seemed to be on the fan backing. Great work. Deb
