Just a basic black chandelier (I had already hung a few crystals from the bottom).
and now...glama-fied!
It'd be a great look around the holidays. Too bad I didn't think about it sooner.
Here it is after
(couple of pictures with different lighting)
Actually it turned out a little more glam-tastic than I had thought it would.
I only used a dab of glue on the top ball and the little bottom ball to hold the cording together, the rest is just wrapped tightly, so it will be easy to remove if I get tired of it.
It's wide wired ribbon folded in half and then tightly wrapped around all the arms of the chandelier. The wire does a great job at holding things in place without needing adhesive.
Then a few spare crystal chandelier parts I got off ebay are attached to the fabric with thin wire that came out of my extra ribbon.
I should learn not to leave a pile of stuff like this laying around. Out of sight out of mind.
(these are the leftovers)
Now I just have to find some new shades for it...
So what do you think?

Wow! I like the effect when it's dark! Really cool!
ReplyDeletevery very cool! man, i wish i had your creativeness!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and am thrilled that someone else agrees 'you can never have too much metallic'. I have spray painted everything gold in my house. I have used rub and buff but you are inspiring me to take it to the next level. Oh yes, and I love the chandy wrapped in ribbon! Hope you find a great shade idea I can steal because I hate most tiny shades!
ReplyDeletenice creativeness very very gorgeous.

I just bought a used brash chandelier and came up w the idea of wrapping it w ribbon to cover the brass. I was afraid it would look stupid and googled to see of it was something people do. THANK you. For posting this. It's even better than what I was thinking and gave me some ideas. Do you mind sharing the actual materials you used and where you got them?

Hi Angela!
DeleteI used wired ribbon, I believe it was 3" and I folded it in half. I also used strands of plastic gold beads around the top and white bead strands on the arms. All were Christmas decorations. I think I got them from the dollar store : ) but you could also get them for someplace like Joann's
I bought the crystals off ebay (chandelier crystals) I used a dab of hot glue to hold the beads in place. Hope that helps! : )

Thanks so much Sammy. It looks gorgeous. One last question, in the last picture I see the ribbon and then a lighter color fabric. Did you first wrap the chandelier with that fabric or only with the 3" ribbon?
ReplyDeleteAngela
That lighter color is actually really wide wired ribbon too. I cut that down to size. 3" then folded it in half. I just liked the thicker look of the ribbon when it was folded. You can't really see them in the finished picture but a couple of the arms are the white wired ribbon and the rest of the arms are a white and gold wired ribbon. It's only wrapped with wired ribbon, no fabric at all.... and beads... and chandelier crystals on the bottom
DeleteI like questions! Feel free to keep em coming. : )
