Before and After, Paint and Rub n' Buff

Hello all!  Surprise, surprise, I'm still playing around with my Rub n' Buff wax.  Well, I guess I should say, was still playing around with it.  I just ran out, so I am waiting for more to arrive.  Here is another quick 'before and after' using my Rub n' Buff wax and paint.  My DIY'd storage unit got a makeover.  Here it was before (Click here to see the original post for how it was put together. Excuse the pictures, they were before I got my new camera.)

Here it is now.

I used Rub n' Buff colors, Gold Leaf, Silver Leaf, and European Gold, on the back in random stripes.  It was applied over white paint.

Then I used a mixture of the three colors to highlight the mouldings.

Look what else I have in the works!  A wall stencil... yep... with Rub n' Buff.  This stuff looks amazing on the walls.  It glistens as the light moves around over it throughout the day.  Here is a sneak peak.  I'll post the full reveal as soon as it's finished.  (As soon as my Rub n' Buff gets here!)

Christmas Candle Display

It's beginning to look MORE like Christmas... 
I was going to post about my Christmas decorations for the stairs, you can see them in the back ground of this picture.  I will post about those next.  But for now... my candle table display.
I like building things out of glasses and dishware, like cupcake stands and stuff like that, so this year I built a sort of candle Christmas tree out of plates and cylinder glass vases.

A large square white dinner plate for the bottom.  A glass vase on top in the middle, then another large square white dinner plate.  Then another smaller cylinder vase with a smaller square white dinner plate on top.  Easy-peasy

I filled the cylinder shaped vases with Christmas ornaments

Then, I covered the bottom of each plate with gold and silver ornaments.

Then I used champagne and wine glasses as candle holders on each level.  I filled the champagne glass with rice to hold the candles upright.

This is simple enough to do, and looks so pretty in the center of a table.  You could use round plates and regular drinking glass to do this too.  Ok, now next up the stairs...REALLY.

Fabric Covered Tree Branch

Ok so I'm sure you are probably sick to death of seeing tree limbs and branches by now, but I have one more little project to show you.  It's a silly one I must admit, but strangely I love it.  Which leads me to a question for you.  Have you ever thought about upholstering a tree?  Well, I have, at least a branch anyway.  Here she is.

It's just a whole lot of wrapping strips of cut fabric around all the branches and hot glueing them down.

And here you go.  16 glue gun burns and blisters later.  She's all done!

My husband actually really likes this branch.  He thinks it looks like some sort of sea creature.  I don't know, different strokes for different fokes I guess.  I could see something like this being cute in a childs room, or even hanging over a crib like a mobile, with all sorts of interesting baby things hanging from it.

Loveseat Turned Console Table

Good Morning, hello, how are ya!  Here is my latest little project.  It is a simple one!
 I found this frame of a loveseat.  No cushions, but that's OK.  I saw something different when I looked at it.  See the arms, and legs.  They are rectangles of teak wood.

What did I see?  Well first,

I removed the seat and the back. (There is a piece of wood that runs across the top, under the glass, that connects the end pieces, and supports the glass.) What do you have left?

A console table!

Told you it was a simple one!

Painted Steamer Trunk With Glass Top

So as you might have noticed in my last post, I'm actually working on two rooms right now.  My entryway and my living room.  In the entryway, I am giving myself a little time to get used to the new paint job.  But in the living room, I'm working hard at pulling my color scheme together.  That means some repainting.  I decided to change my steamer trunk.  I had already painted it once, for a past living room experiment look (See that look here).  But I've been in the mood lately to lighten things up a bit, so this time I'm using a light gray color. 

Here it is before

I used a small roller to paint the body of the trunk and then a small artist brush to go around all the hardware.

Here it is after the first coat.  It needed a second.

Here it is all finished!

What do you think?  Looks cool right?

A REAL Piano Bar

My piano ~ The back story!  I have this piano that was my Grandmothers (the most wonderful women ever!).  She was a piano teacher who taught students in her home, including me.  She was a minister's wife, and played the Organ for two churches every Sunday morning for most of her adult life.  She was the best.  She used to let me move her furniture around and rearrange her living room when I was a little girl, and always told me how wonderful it looked.  She probably would have said that, even if I had put all her furniture in a pile, in the middle of the floor!  I miss her everyday!  So, back to the piano.  It obviously has huge sentimental value to me and I will never get rid of it.  But, the piano doesn't always blend well with some of my room redo's (sometimes my decorating tastes are a little "out there".  I am always trying to figure out what I want to do with it, and how to use it in my room.  So, on to the pictures already.  Here is my latest bright idea! 

A real piano bar.

For some reason I love the look of the backs, yes BACKS, of pianos.  Call me crazy.  I think they look neat.  I used what I had laying around the house to build some legs.  Books and wooden candlesticks.  But really you could use anything even bar table legs.

I have an obsession for cheese plates, because I love the glass domes.  I am always collecting them, and seem to come across them a lot at thrift stores and garage sales.  I used a champagne glass and the cheese plate dome to make my flower vases. 

What I would really like to do is paint the piano a high gloss white and make a butcher block counter top to fit over the back of the piano, to protect all the inner workings in case anything ever got knocked over.  And, put white bar stools with fresh green fabric tops with it, and white curtains.  I think that would be so pretty, and DIFFERENT!  No doubt.

I won't be painting this piano because I think my Gram would turn over in her grave if I broke out the paint brush and pointed it in her pianos direction!  But if I ever come across an old piano in my thrifting adventures, I might just buy it up and try it!

So what do you think of this idea?  Am I crazy? : )

Paper Leaves Fall Tree

We had a branch fall in the yard driveway the other morning.  It was a perfect opportunity to start on a little fall decorating.  I made paper leaves last year and hug them on my mantel.  (See the "How To Make Paper Leaves" post here)  This year I decided to use them again but on my new found big ole branch.

I took a bunch of pictures. 

I thought the black would be a fun addition to the orange pumpkin for a little Halloween inspiration.

And, here is a picture of the actual branch.  Bet you thought that wee little branch above was what fell in my driveway!  Oh no, it was just one of the many babies of the momma branch.  How would you like to drive into that first thing in the morning?  Did my driveway just disappear or have I just not had enough coffee yet this morning!!! lol
