I found this poor little sofa at the thrift store, looking a little worse for wear to say the least. The good news... I've finally decided on a fabric for it. But I'm not telling... you'll just have to wait and see.
So let the reminiscing begin...Remember this? This is my master bedroom. I only posted about it briefly after I changed it, so I thought it would be a good place to start. Gray and white with a pop of yellow!
So this is all pretty simple stuff. Light colored walls (white or gray), with white curtains. Gray and white bedding. Make your own, if you like ruffles. I made the ruffled sheet above from two fitted sheet sets I picked up at Marshall's. I think they were something like $18 a set. Click here to see the ruffled fitted sheet post for the "How To".
You might remember this DIY. A home-made headboard from a blown up, computer generated image, and a hollow core door. I think this Headboard cost me about $100 to make, and it's different, I like that about it. I had the image blown up through the online site POSTERBRAIN.com Pretty nifty! They do all the dirty work for you and they're not too pricey. The hollow core door runs around $30. Click here to see that "How To" if you missed it.
The pillows are from IKEA, also pretty inexpensive for 26" x 26" cotton velvet pillows.
Let's see... what else... those are thrift store lamps, primed and painted white, with a couple of new shades.
And finally Rub n' Buff "Silver Leaf" for some snazzy silver furniture (bedside tables and desk at the foot of the bed.). Click here to see the "How To"
See... simple stuff, and fairly inexpensive to do.
OK, so hope my reminiscing doesn't bore the crap out of you this week... but, I like looking back through all the past things I've worked on. Hopefully you will too. If not just come back next week ~HEEHEE HAHA, sorry it's been a long day and my sense of humor is a bit lame.

Hey Sammy! I love your sofa and can't wait to see what you're going to do! I recently brought home a sofa for $20 to reuphoster (which I've never done in my life!). Would you believe that we brought it home and it won't fit inside!?!?! Now it is just sitting in our garage until I come up with some miracle answer or admit defeat and git rid of it.
ReplyDeleteA picture of the sofa is at the bottom of this post - http://29ruehouse.blogspot.com/2013/01/dare-i-try-upholstery.html
Hi Crystal! I saw your sofa... love it. That stinks that it won't fit through the door (but kinda funny ~ heehee)
DeleteCan you take the legs off? Do they unscrew? Just a thought...

ReplyDeleteHi Julia!!!!!!!!! : )
DeleteHey Sammy,
ReplyDeleteI have been missing you! - Will have to re-follow I guess, I had to find this on FB. I NEED to know how you handle those rolled arms on that couch! See - I have these chairs with rolled backs and the first one wore me out - just getting the staples out, soooo - take your time, but, by all means, let me know!
Hey Sticky Fingers!! Oh no! What happened? Thank goodness for FB, (Never thought I'd hear myself say that! lol)
DeleteNo kidding on the staples, right!! It's definitely a labor of love.
: ) Hopefully I'll have it done by the end of the month. Stay tuned.
