Pearl Blue and Silver Leaf Desk Redo... (Rub n Buff)

Holy Crap!  I've found a new color of Rub n Buff that I'm in love with!  Pearl Blue!  I figured I'd venture away from all the golds I've been trying and give a different color a try.  Wowzer!!  It's sooo beautiful.  Ok so maybe I'm being a bit dramatic but I really do love it.  I have this old desk I found at an Estate sale that has some finish issues.  Let's just say it had been well used and loved!   I thought it would look nice with a vintage glam look.   Take a looksee. 

Here it was before,

 I love, love, LOVE finding old furniture and giving it a facelift! I think I could do it 24/7.  I guess that's why they say, when you love what you're doing, it doesn't seem like work!  (or something like that)

It's like my version of yoga!  HA!

Here it is now! 

I used Pearl Blue Rub n Buff on the drawer fronts, the sides, and the base of the desk.  Then I used Silver Leaf Rub n Buff on the top and pulls and around the edges of the drawer fronts.  I have to say that using Rub n Buff on large flat areas is a little more tricky.  I had to dilute the Rub n Buff and then paint the whole piece using an artist brush to get a more solid looking finish.  You have to be careful not to dilute the Rub n Buff too much, so using a small brush works best.  I just used a small glass cup and poured a little Deglosser in the bottom of the cup, then squirted a blob of the Rub n Buff on the side of the cup and dipped the edge of my brush in the Deglosser and then swirled it around on the side of the cup in the Rub n Buff. Whoah! Not so easy to put into words!! I tried paint thinner too, but the Deglosser worked best for me.  Once it dried I went back with a cloth and applied another coat of Rub n Buff sparingly.  It took some patience but the outcome was worth it!  I used a whole tube of Pearl Blue on the desk. 

This desk shines now!  Literally!!  The color of the blue changes as the light hits it.

Metallic Gold Ottoman Redo

Hello everyone!  Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!!  Now that I'm stuffed to the gills with Christmas cheer and cookies, I'm back to being amazed by my Rub n Buff stuff!  Are you tired of hearing about this stuff yet?  Hope not, cuz I gots lots more projects on the way!  My newest discovery is... this stuff works like a charm on....LEATHER.  Can you believe it?!  I was so excited I did a little dance.  I turned one of my boring old leather ottomans into glamtastic eye candy!  I mean really, who couldn't use a metallic gold ottoman!

The ottoman even had some small scratches in the leather on the top, but you'd never know it now!

Isn't it cool!  The color I used is called Grecian Gold, but I prefer to call this pretty little puppy GUCCI GOLD!  Just sounds better to me for some reason.... I don't know why??

I have another ottoman just like this one, that is about to get the same treatment! 

Next up... a desk, 6 dining chairs, and a coffee table, all rubbed and buffed and on the way!  You'd think that my house would be starting to look like it's gilded in gold and silver but it doesn't, although, I do think my husband might be worrying that with my slight Rub n Buff addiction he may wake up one morning looking like this

Or like this... if he woke up wearing a suit.  Doesn't he look terrified?...or constipated!   Love that one.  HEEHEE

Hall Wall Stencil... Rubbed and Buffed!

Ok, so the hall wall stencil is DONE!  In case you're new to my blog, and have maybe missed a few of my previous posts.  I have become slightly addicted to Rub n' Buff.  This stuff seems to mainly be used for craft type projects but I saw a whole world of possibilities when I squeezed the first little blob from the tube.  I've been trying it on EVERYTHING.  I've said it before, and I'm gonna say it again...  if you aren't familiar with Rub n' Buff (I wasn't only a few short months ago) it's a metallic wax that comes in a tube, and it's AWESOME!  And no, I have not been coerced, poked, prodded, or bribed into saying so!  Here is my new hallway/entryway before and after I Rubbed and Buffed it to death.

 It's hard to capture it's true shine and sparkle in the pictures.  I took pictures at a couple of different angles and with different light in the room so you could get a better feel for it.

I took this last picture before I was finished doing the room, but it's got good shine so here it is a again.

I'm not exactly sure at this point how I'm going to furnish the space, but I'm thinking... I'll keep it pretty sparse.  I think the walls will do all the talking!  I'll post a pic. when I've got it all figured out.

Oh and here's a tip if you're going to be jumping on the Rub n' Buff train.  Wear latex gloves, and use a cloth to rub it on.  I found that an old t-shirt works best.   If you get this stuff under your nails, it's NOT pretty, and oooohhhh did I get this stuff under my nails!  I just picture myself going into the manicurist and having a little conversation that goes something like this... Hmmm? No it's not dirt.... really.... I SWEAR... What... no... I do bathe...really... I do!!  Not nice!  But if you do get it under your nails a little paint thinner or ACETONE nail polish remover with a whole lot of rubbing will take it off.

Before and After, Paint and Rub n' Buff

Hello all!  Surprise, surprise, I'm still playing around with my Rub n' Buff wax.  Well, I guess I should say, was still playing around with it.  I just ran out, so I am waiting for more to arrive.  Here is another quick 'before and after' using my Rub n' Buff wax and paint.  My DIY'd storage unit got a makeover.  Here it was before (Click here to see the original post for how it was put together. Excuse the pictures, they were before I got my new camera.)

Here it is now.

I used Rub n' Buff colors, Gold Leaf, Silver Leaf, and European Gold, on the back in random stripes.  It was applied over white paint.

Then I used a mixture of the three colors to highlight the mouldings.

Look what else I have in the works!  A wall stencil... yep... with Rub n' Buff.  This stuff looks amazing on the walls.  It glistens as the light moves around over it throughout the day.  Here is a sneak peak.  I'll post the full reveal as soon as it's finished.  (As soon as my Rub n' Buff gets here!)

Rub n' Buff House Plants...Christmas Decorations

Two posts in one day!! Wowzers!!  Here is another quick little DIY, perfect for Christmas time.   I thought I would go ahead and post about it now since Christmas is just around the corner.  Don't worry the other furniture projects are on the way.  Is there anything you can't use Rub n' Buff for?  I mean really this stuff works on eveything it seems.  Even plants!  I just put a dab on my finger and rubbed it onto these little leaves and voila!

I thought they would look great as Christmas decorations!

You could even use them as place holders for the table!

You could add them into flower arrangements too.  Add some gold or silver to your roses!!

Buffet Before & After With Rub n' Buff

Here is a quick before and after using my new Rub n' Buff stuff!  I found this mid century modern buffet some time ago and wanted to give it a little pick me up.  I taped off squares around the drawers then added a little Rub n' Buff to a cloth, rubbed it on... then buffed it shiny.  It took all of about 5 minutes to do this project.  So easy, and the Rub n' Buff dries super fast.  I used it on the hardware too.  I used European Gold on this piece.
